(HU) „A pápa tisztelettel hajol meg az időskor előtt, és mindenkit arra hív, hogy vele együtt hasonlóan tegyen. Az időskor az élet különböző szakaszainak beteljesedése. Magában hordozza mindannak termését, amit az ember tanult ás látott, amennyit dolgozott és elért, amennyit szenvedett és tűrt. Mint egy nagy szimfónia fináléjában: az élet meghatározó elemei visszatérnek, hogy hatalmas, zengő összhangba olvadjanak össze. És ez a végső összhang bölcsességet ad: olyan bölcsességet, amelyért a fiatal Salamon esedezett [vö. 1 Kir 3, 9‒11], mely számára meghatározóbb a hatalomnál és a gazdaságnál, fontosabb a szépségnél és az egészségnél [vö. Bölcs. 7, 7‒10]. A bölcsességről ezt olvassuk az Ószövetség életszabályai között: »Milyen jól áll az élteseknek a bölcsesség, s a tiszteseknek az értelem és megfontoltság! Az öregek koszorúja a bőséges tapasztalat, és dicsőségük Isten félelme« [Sir. 25, 5‒6].”
(EN) “The Pope bows with devotion before old age, and he invites all people to do the same with him. Old age is the crown of the steps of life. It gathers in the harvest, the harvest from what you have learned and experienced, the harvest from what you have done and achieved, the harvest from what you have suffered and undergone. As in the finale of a great symphony, all the great themes of life combine to a mighty harmony. And this harmony bestows wisdom ‒ the wisdom which young King Solomon is praying for [see 1 Kgs 3:9-11] and which means more to him than power and riches, more than beauty and health [see Wis 7:7-10] ‒ the wisdom about which we read in the rules of life of the Old Testament: »How attractive is wisdom in the aged, and understanding and counsel in honorable men! Rich experience is the crown of the aged, and their boast is the fear of the Lord« [Sir 25:5-6].”
(DE) „Der Papst verneigt sich in Ehrfurcht von dem Alter, und er lädt alle ein, es ihm zu tun. Das Alter ist die Krone der Stufen des Lebens. Es bringt die Ernte ein, die Ernte aus dem Gelernten und Erlebten, die Ernte aus dem Geleisteten und dem Erreichten, die Ernte auch aus dem Erlittenen und Bestandenen. Wie im Schlußsatz einer großen Symphonie kommen die großen Themen des Lebens zum machtvollen Zusammenklang. Und dieses Zusammenklingen verleiht Weisheit, die Weisheit, um die der junge König Salomon betet [1 Kön 3:9-11], die ihm entscheidender ist als Macht und Reichtum, wichtiger als Schönheit und Gesundheit [Weish 7:7-10]; die Weisheit, von der wir in den Lebensregeln des Alten Bundes lesen: »Wie gut steht Hochbetagten Weisheit an, würdigen Männern Überlegung und Rat. Ein Ehrenkranz der Alten ist reiche Erfahrung, ihr Ruhm ist die Gottesfurcht« [Sir 25:5-6]”
(ES) „El Papa se inclina con profundo respeto ante la ancianidad, e invita a todos a que lo hagan con él. La vejez es la coronación de los escalones de la vida. En ella se cosechan frutos: los frutos de lo aprendido y lo experimentado, los frutos de lo realizado y lo conseguido, los frutos de lo sufrido y lo soportado. Como en la parte final de una gran sinfonía, se recogen los grandes temas de la vida en un poderoso acorde. Y esta armonía confiere sabiduría; la sabiduría que pidió en oración el joven rey Salomón [cf. 1 Re 3, 9-11], más decisiva, para él, que el poder y la riqueza, más importante que la belleza y la salud [cf. Sab 7, 7-10]; la sabiduría de la que leemos en las normas de vida del Antiguo Testamento: »¡Qué bien dice la sabiduría a los ancianos, y la inteligencia y el consejo a los nobles! La corona de los ancianos es su rica experiencia, y el temor del Señor su gloria« [Sir 25, 5-6].”
(PT) „O Papa inclina-se com respeito diante da ancianidade e convida todos a fazerem o mesmo com ele. A ancianidade é o coroamento das etapas da vida. Ela traz em si a colheita do que se aprendeu e viveu, a colheita de quanto se fez e foi alcançado, a colheita de quanto se sofreu e suportou. Como ao final de uma grande sinfonia, os temas dominantes da vida voltam para urna vigorosa síntese sonora. E esta ressonância conclusiva confere sabedoria: sabedoria implorada pelo jovem Salomão [cf. 1 Rs 3, 9-11], a qual é para ele mais decisiva que o poder e a riqueza, mais importante que a beleza e a saúde [cf. Sab 7, 7-10]; a sabedoria, de que lemos nas regras de vida da antiga Aliança: »Quão bela é a sabedoria nas pessoas de idade avançada, e a inteligência e a prudência nas pessoas nobres! A experiência consumada é coroa dos anciãos« [Ecli 25, 5-6]”
